Itinerary

Timed around Day of the Dead, this journey travels from Guadalajara & Tequila through Guanajuato & San Miguel de Allende for the festivities, before continuing to Mexico City via Teotihuacán, flying to Mérida, & finishing on the Caribbean coast with Tulum and Cancún.

  • Arrive in Guadalajara, the birthplace of tequila and mariachi, and settle into the historic centre. The next day, travel into tequila country, passing blue agave fields on the way to the town of Tequila. Visit traditional distilleries, taste local tequila, explore the lively streets, and begin the journey with a strong sense of Mexican flavour and atmosphere.

  • Journey through Mexico’s scenic highlands to Guanajuato, one of the country’s most colourful colonial cities. As Day of the Dead begins, the streets fill with candlelight, music, altars, flowers, and local celebration. Explore winding alleyways, colourful houses, plazas, and the city’s distinctive underground streets while experiencing one of Mexico’s most meaningful traditions.

  • Continue to San Miguel de Allende, known for its cobbled streets, galleries, markets, warm colours, and beautiful colonial architecture. Experience the final days of Day of the Dead festivities, explore local streets and artisan shops, and enjoy a walking food tour showcasing regional flavours. There is also time for optional relaxation, galleries, or nearby hot springs.

  • Travel toward Mexico City, stopping at the remarkable ancient site of Teotihuacán. Walk the Avenue of the Dead and take in the scale of the pyramids before continuing to the capital. After a short taste of Mexico City’s historic centre, fly south to Mérida, the cultural heart of the Yucatán Peninsula.

  • Spend time in Mérida, known for colonial architecture, colourful streets, local food, and Yucatán culture. Explore the region’s famous cenotes, natural limestone pools hidden in the jungle, with time to swim in clear water and enjoy a slower day surrounded by nature before continuing toward the Caribbean coast.

  • Travel across the Yucatán Peninsula to Tulum and settle into the relaxed coastal atmosphere. Enjoy time by the beach, browse boutiques, explore local streets, or simply unwind. Visit the jungle ruins of Coba, with the chance to explore by bicycle, then cool off with a swim in a nearby cenote.

  • Transfer to Cancún for the final stage of the journey. Enjoy a free afternoon to relax, explore local markets, or take in the coastal atmosphere before gathering for a farewell dinner. The journey ends the following morning after two colourful weeks through Mexico’s highlands, festivals, ruins, food culture, cenotes, and coast.
